REF: 11447_ESP

ULF-HM-53 Late Roman helmet Deir El-Medina

A very authentic replica of a late Roman spangenhelm, which was found in Deir el-Medina, an old working-class settlement near Thebes.

The helmet dates from the first half of the 4th century AD and can be seen today at the Coptic Museum in Cairo.

Spangenhelme was probably first used in the Sarmatian cavalry, a rider from northern Iraq, and gained notoriety among the Romans, Celts and Germanic tribes during late antiquity.
