Saber Ertzaintza

The Ertzaintza is the autonomous police of the Basque Country, created in 1982 by the lendakari Carlos Garaikoetxea in development of the Statute of Guernica. Its origin as the Basque Country"s own police is located in the old municipal militias to stop banditry favored by social and political upheavals. It is one of the four autonomous Spanish security forces and bodies, together with the Catalan Mozos de Escuadra, the Navarre Provincial Police and the Canarian Police.

In 1982 a prototype of the uniform of Grand Gala, post-Napoleonic court, inspired by those uniforms used by the "Chasseurs D"Orleans" of the 1840s by the French troops. Later it was modified giving it a line similar to General Zumalakarregi"s coat, but playing with its composition of colors, green, red and silver.

The image of this garment is of great poise and solemnity, singled out in the bodies of Great Honors, for its showiness, distinction and packaging. The accessories of the uniform are: Txapela, gloves, shoulder strap, shoulder strap, saber and collar.
