ESCUDO LEGIONARIO IMPERIAL ROMANO SCUTUM
Roman shield called Scutum. This shield allowed the Roman legionary to perform protective formations in battle as the famous turtle formation or testudo formation.
It protected the soldier thanks to its height and sides. It also allowed to block the enemy's melee attacks.
The central umbo was used offensively, displacing the opponent to attack later with the Roman Gladius.
The edges are protected with brass reinforcements.
