Wakizashi Shirasaya - Marto
The wakizashi, also known as the shotō, is a traditional Japanese short sword. Its shape is similar to that of the katana, although the edge is generally thinner. Samurai warriors often carried both, calling them together daishō, literally "the long and the short."
The wakizashi was originally used as a defensive weapon by samurai when a katana was unavailable. Being shorter and more manageable, it was better suited for defense in close quarters.
